Corona-konformes Sitzmöbel für das Wiener Stadtgebiet ladet zum sicheren sozialen Austausch ein.

Stadt Wien:
„Der Klimawandel und die Maßnahmen zur Eindämmung des Coronavirus stellen Belastungen dar und verursachen Einschränkungen für Kranke und Ältere. Neue Sitzmöbel an schattigen Standorten schaffen Abhilfe.
Es ist Aufgabe der Stadt, dafür zu sorgen, dass der öffentliche Raum weder durch klimatische Belastungen noch durch Einschränkungen und Abstandsregeln im Rahmen einer Pandemie zu einem Angstraum wird. Aus diesem Grund hat die Stadt 4 verschiedene Design-Büros mit dem Entwurf Corona-konformer Sitzmöbel beauftragt, die an schattigen Standorten im Wiener Stadtgebiet aufgestellt werden und ausdrücklich zum Austausch einladen. Der im Rahmen von COVID-19 notwendige Mindestabstand von 1 Meter ist durch die Formgebung  der sogenannten Plaudereckn leicht einzuhalten.“

„Vor Corona, während Corona, nach Corona – trotz Corona wollen wir frei und sicher im öffentlichen Raum sein. Das gewohnte, lineare Sitzen auf einer Bank löst sich auf. Der Verzicht von einem Meter Sitzfläche lässt neue Ausrichtungen des Sitzens zu. Es entstehen neue Privatsphären – voneinander abgewandte Positionen, aber auch zugerichtete, kommunikationsfördernde.
Zwei unterschiedlich große Sitzflächen lassen Angehörige der Risikogruppen sicher sitzen, aber auch sich nahestehende Personen nahe sein.”

Gefahrlose Begegnung im öffentlichen Raum

Sowohl der Coronavirus als auch die Klimakrise zeigen die dringende Notwendigkeit, Möglichkeiten der Begegnung und des Austausches zu schaffen, ohne dass sich Menschen dabei einer Gefahr aussetzen. Vor allem sogenannte Risikogruppen – also Menschen mit Vorerkrankungen sowie Ältere – leiden unter Einschränkungen; sei es im Zuge von Vereinsamung und Isolation oder dahingehend, dass der Aufenthalt im öffentlichen Raum für sie eine Gefahr darstellt. Bereits vergangene Hitzesommer haben gezeigt, dass vor allem kranke und ältere Menschen unter zunehmender Einsamkeit und Isolation leiden, da sie oft aufgrund der steigenden Temperaturen selten das Haus verlassen.

Das Leben in der Corona-Krise ist geprägt von Restriktionen und neuen Verhaltensregeln, die das gesellschaftliche Miteinander stark beeinflussen und strapazieren. Besonders spürbar sind diese Auswirkungen im öffentlichen Raum. Für eine Gesellschaft, die demokratische Werte teilt sowie zahlreiche Freiheiten kennt und lebt, stellen die ungewohnten Einschränkungen durch das Virus daher nicht nur eine gesundheitliche Bedrohung dar. Die Maßnahmen zur Eindämmung von COVID-19 bedeuten einschneidende Veränderungen im Alltag und verhindern lebendige Grätzl und ein offenes Miteinander in der Nachbarschaft. Die Wiener Plaudereckn wirkt diesen Einschnitten entgegen.

City of Vienna:
“Climate change and measures to contain the coronavirus are burdensome and cause restrictions for the sick and elderly. New seating furniture in shady locations provides a remedy. Ist is the responsibility of the city to ensure that the public space does not become a place of fear either through climatic stresses or through restrictions and distance rules in the context of a pandemic.
For this reason, the city has commissioned 4 different design offices to design Corona compliant seating furniture, which will be installed in shady locations in the Vienna city area and explicitly invite exchange. The minimum distance of 1 meter required by COVID-19 can be easily maintained by the design of the so-called “Plaudereckn.”

„Before Corona, during Corona, after Corona – despite Corona, we want to be free and safe in public space. The usual linear sitting on a bench is dissolving. The abandonment of one metre of seating space allows new sitting orientations . New private spheres are created – positions that are turned away from each other, but also positions that are inclined towards each other and stimulate communication.
Two seating areas of different sizes allow members of risk groups to sit safely, but also allow people who know each other well to sit close together. “

Safe encounters in public space

Both the coronavirus and the climate crisis show the urgent need to create opportunities for meeting and exchange without exposing people to danger. Espacially so-calles risk group I.e. people with previous illnessnes as well as the elederly – suffer from limitaions; weather in the course of loneliness and isolation or the extent that their stay in public space poses a danger to them. Past hot summers have already shown that sick and elderly people in particular suffer from increasing lenoliness and isolation, as they often rarely leave their homes due to rising temperatures.

Life in the Corona crisis is characterized by restrictions and new rules of conduct that strongly influence and strain social interaction. These effects are particularly noticeable in public spaces. For a society that shares democratic values and knows and lives by numerous freedoms, the unusual restrictions imposed by the virus are therefore not only a health threat. The measures taken to contain COVID-19 mean drastic changes in everyday life and prevent lively grätzl and open togetherness in the neighbourhood. The Wiener Plaudereckn counteracts these incisions.
